Rabat A team of voluntary medics named 'Zayed Charity Caravan' continued its journey across Morocco giving free treatment to heart patients in the North African country. The Caravan consists of an elite group of cardiac surgeons from UAE, Morocco, France, Canada and South Africa.

The charity campaign is part of a UAE-Morocco joint outreach programme to take free medical help to those suffering from heart ailments including children, men and women. The campaign is coordinated among UAE embassy in Rabat, the Moroccan Ministry of Health, Read Crescent in UAE and Morocco and the Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Rabat. The medical team left capital Rabat yesterday heading for the villages in the western Saharan country.

The humanitarian programme is an outcome of the strategic partnership forged between UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) and the Emirates World Heart Group. An international open-heart surgery team was formed as part of this partnership. The team has performed a large number of open heart surgeries in Morocco free of any charge.

RCA Secretary General Dr. Saleh Al Taie said that the visit by the team to Morocco comes as per directives from President H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and H.H General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces. The progress of the campaign is followed up by H.H Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy prime minister and chairman of Red Crescent Authority. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
