Zayed orders the restructuring of the cabinet

President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan has issued tonight a decree on the restructuring of the cabinet. The move followed suggestion made by H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

According to the decision, a new portfolio of ministry of presidential affairs has been created, while other ministries have been merged together. The merger include the merging of the Ministry of Education and Youth with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to form a single ministry under the name of the Ministry of Education.

The Ministry of Economy has also been merged with the Ministry of Planning to form a new ministry to be known as Ministry of Economy and Planning, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources have been merged with the Ministry of Electricity and Water under one ministry to be known as the Ministry of Energy.

Additional responsibility has been added to a number of ministries, including the Ministry of State for Supreme Council Affairs, which now has an additional responsibility of GCC affairs. This gives the ministry a new name of Ministry of Supreme Council and GCC Affairs.

The decree appointed the following:

- Major General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan as Interior Minister

- Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan as Minister of Presidential Affairs

- Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan as Minister of Education

- Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan as Minister of Public Works

- Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi as Minister of Supreme Council and GCC Affairs

- Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, as Minister of Economy and Planning

- Mohammed bin Dha'en Al Hamili as Minister of Energy

- Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri as Minister of Communications

- Dr. Ali bin Abdullah Al Ka'abi as Minister of Labour and Social Affairs.
