Zayed receives Blair

Geneva (WAM) President His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan last night received at his residence here British Prime Minister Tony Blair. During their meeting, they exchanged views on current developments and their effects upon the region and on the international scene as a whole. They also discussed the critical situation through which the Middle East peace process is currently passing, going on to review the existing state of relations of co-operation and friendship between the UAE and Britain. They also discussed ways of enhancing co-operation between the two countries.



President His Highness Sheikh Zayed reiterated to the British Prime Minister the UAE's total condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestation and its support for international efforts to fight the phenomenon, which, he said, does not reflect in any way Islam and its teachings of tolerance. 'Determined efforts should be made to eradicate elements of terror,' he said, 'without showing any leniency towards terrorists. But when international community moves against terrorism, there must at the same time be concerted efforts to end Israeli terrorism in Palestine, and the daily Israeli oppression and injustices against the defenceless Palestinian people,' the UAE President said. In attendance at the meeting were Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Director General of the President's office, Ali Salim Al Kaabi, Director of the President's office and Nasser Al Aboudi, the UAE's Permanent Representative a the United Nations in Geneva.
