Abu Dhabi, (WAM): UAE President HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan today received a telephone call from Pakistani President Parveen Musharraf. During their conversation, the two leaders exchanged views on the current situation in the region in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks that took place in the United States last week. They also discussed the international efforts being made to combat the phenomenon of terrorism and to eradicate it.

The two Presidents also discussed ways of achieving a united Islamic and international position on confronting international terrorism.

HH Sheikh Zayed emphasised to the Pakistani President that the United Arab Emirates rejects terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, and that it believes that it is necessary for all the countries in the world to co-operate in order to confront this phenomenon wherever it is found. He went on to state that fighting terrorism should also include the putting of an end to Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, noting that it is only thus that the people of the world will be able to see that there is one single yardstick for judging what is right and just.

The UAE President also reaffirmed his belief that Islam is a religion of mercy and of tolerance, and that it has no relationship with extremism and violent crimes committed by terrorists. Islam is innocent of and far from such acts, he said.
