The President, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, since his accession as Ruler of Abu Dhabi 36 years ago, has initiated new trends in governance and administration which he derived from his Arabian genuineness and supreme Islamic values, said Sheikh Mohammed bin Butti, the Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Municipality and Town Planning Department.

In an interview with Khaleej Times on the 35th Anniversary of the Accession Day, Sheikh Butti said that President Sheikh Zayed's rule and day-to-day practices were guided by Islamic values and principles as well as his belonging to the Arab nation, a matter which brought him closer to his people and the Arab and Muslim nation.

"Even before he came to power, His Highness Sheikh Zayed has always dreamt of making achievements that contributed to a social transformation to modernity, while at the same time preserving the deep-rooted values and right principles. By doing so, he has managed to take the country in to modernity and affluence in a short period," Sheikh Butti noted.

He said the 36 years of Sheikh Zayed's rule had shown that leadership is not an honorary title, but a great responsibility shouldered by the leader to take his people to safe havens and times of prosperity and welfare.

"He managed in such a short time to make miraculous achievements, beginning with his tremendous work to unite the country under the umbrella of the federation which has now become an example to be followed," Sheikh Butti added.

"With the rise of Sheikh Zayed to power, a new promising dawn started in the country. The UAE was fortunate to have been blessed with a visionary leader, who devoted himself to develop his country and bring prosperity to his people.

"Throughout those 35 years, Sheikh Zayed had been the moving force behind many remarkable achievements, which have not only placed the emirate of Abu Dhabi in a distinctive position but also ensured that the United Arab Emirates was formed from what was a unique experiment into a solid and lasting bond with its own identity".

"Through his wisdom and insight, Sheikh Zayed has realised from the outset that in order for the soil of this country to bear fruits, its natural resources as well as its human resources have to be developed. Therefore, he paid special attention to raise well-educated generations. He always had fatherly feelings towards his sons. He is truly the father of this nation who cared for it, bestowed affection and secured its future. Sheikh Zayed has fulfilled the dreams of this country," Sheikh Butti said.

He said the 36th Accession Day of Sheikh Zayed is an occasion which is celebrated not only by UAE people, but by all nations of the world who understand the real value of great leaders who devoted themselves to helping their people and the people of the world at large, regardless of their race, belongings or beliefs.
