The Corniche festival celebrating the UAE's 40th National Day opens today and will run until Saturday the 3rd of December. Organisers encouraged citizens and residents of the UAE to join in the carnival atmosphere which offers hours of free entertainment for the whole family.

Stretched over 1.7 kilometres of the Abu Dhabi Beaches the celebrations, which will be divided into 5 unique zones areas, will be open to the public daily from 5pm to midnight. The action-packed festivities are expected to attract more than 300,000 visitors with street performers, live music, traditional food and much more in store for visitors.

The inaugural day of the beach activities will host an incredible Al Forsan (military) AirShow from 5pm - 6pm. This will be followed by a daring paraglide exhibition from 5:15 - 5:40.

Key events will include a dramatically choreographed water show from the sea set to traditional music. This activity will take place daily from 6pm until midnight with shows every half hour.

In true spirit of celebrations firework displays lighting up Abu Dhabi's skyline will take place along the beach at 8pm on December 1st.

The 5 zones on the beach will represent different elements of Emirati life and celebrate the Spirit of Union. Zones will be split into: Ambition, Tradition, Celebration, Imagination and Innovation.

'Ambition' will showcase the key achievements of the United Arab Emirates and illustrate the development of the Nation over the past 40 years through imagery, film and artefacts.

'Tradition' will offer authentic activities representing the values of the UAE and initiatives that explore Emirati culture and tradition. Events will also reflect on the UAE's history through performances of national bands, a fashion show showcasing traditional clothing from each of the different Emirates and the display of handicrafts. It will also provide visitors with the opportunity to learn more about the proud Emirati culture.

'Celebration' aims to engage with all nationalities and age groups in the UAE offering excellent views of the watershow and fireworks display in addition to various modern and traditional entertainment activities which will take place on the main stage.

'Imagination' will showcase a talented Chalk Artist sure to woe the crowds with his unique skills.

'Innovation' looks ahead to the UAE's growth as a modern and progressive nation displaying the buildings of the future and milestone projects being undertaken. Various family entertainment options and street performers will also be present to delight visitors.

For the children, a special kid's corner will delight and entertain with a daily puppet show, face-painting and lots of fun arts and crafts to keep little ones entertained. Children should also keep a look out for the giveaway truck that will be moving throughout the 5 zones distributing goodies. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
