New York - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has welcomed UAE's decision to write off all debts on Iraq. The debt amounting to USD 4bn that was paid to Iraq over the last several years was written off along with interest by a decision in July by President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Kuwait - Secretary General of the Arab League (AL) Amr Mousa said the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan's initiative back in 2003 for the then Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to step down to avoid a possible war against Iraq would have averted many evils that have now riddled Iraq and the whole region.

 Chemical weapons law to be amended

The ministerial legislative committee has approved a number of amendments to Law No. 40 (2006) regarding ban on developing, manufacturing, stockpiling or using chemical weapons. At a meeting presided over by HE Minister of Justice Jouan bin Hadif al Dhahiri, the committee also approved amendments to the federal draft law No.13 (2007) regarding commodities regulated by export-import control.

Ankara - Turkish President Abdullah Gul received yesterday visiting UAE Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
