In 1996 and 1997 members of ADIAS excavated a number of sites on this island located northeast of Abu Dhabi city. Here a group of wells excavated directly into the island’s bedrock were recorded, as well as a series of hearths which might have been used for lime manufacture or communal cooking. Ceramics from one of the wells suggests a date during the Portuguese era, probably for most of the sixteenth century.
