This small village is located north of Shimal in northern Ras al-Khaimah.
Close to the hills at the base of the Hajar mountains here are a number
of tombs, several of which were investigated in the 1970s and 1980s
by a series of British expeditions. In particular, a large, roughly
ovoid tomb-type with a central, internal pier has come to be called
the 'Ghalilah' type tomb for it was here that examples were first
investigated. These date to the early-mid second millennium BC The
remains of an Iron Age settlement have also been identified at Ghalilah,
just east of the modern village.
