Elongate, silvery body, dorsally bluish-green, either compressed or cylindrical. Large eyes, extended beak-like mouth, needle-sharp teeth. Gill rakers absent. Larger specimens offshore around structures in strong tidal flows. Caught by gillnets commercially. Bones and parts of the meat are green. Ablennes hians garfish, Tylosurus crocodilus garfish, Arabic name: Kharam or Hagool
