Toad-head agama (Phrenocephalus arabicus)

The last of the larger lizards that is regularly encountered in the open desert is the toad-head agama (Phrenocephalus arabicus ). Growing to some 25 cms it often sits conspicuously on top of a rock or sand-dune. During the mating season the throats of the males become bright orange in colour, which they display from their vantage point, in the hope of attracting a mate.
