UAE wins 21 medals in two days of Special Games Posted on 20/11/2008
The 6th MENA Regional Special Games hosts UAE have increased their medal tally to 21 after the second day of the event.
UAE athletes have so far picked up eight gold, 10 silver and three bronze medals at the sixth MENA Regional Special Games.
Saif Ahmad Al Doubl won gold in his 25 metre freestyle swimming category while Abdullah Al Tajer took first place in the same race in his category.

Flame of Hope arrives with Special Olympics Posted on 16/11/2008
More than 1,000 athletes from 23 countries in the Middle East and North Africa marched in Abu Dhabi last night for the opening ceremony of the sixth annual regional Special Olympic Games.
The Games will feature more than a dozen events for athletes with cognitive impairment and special needs.
The opening ceremony, on the fields around the Armed Forces Officers Club, came as the Flame of Hope of the Special Olympics World Winter Games arrived in Abu Dhabi from Dubai.

Preparations ‘excellent’, says Fina Posted on 15/10/2008
Dubai's preparation for the short-course World Swimming Championships in 2010 is "excellentâ€, according to Fina, the international governing body of swimming. A delegation from Fina is visiting to assess progress.

UAE to be first stop for Special Olympics flame Posted on 14/10/2008
The Flame of Hope is to pass through Dubai and Abu Dhabi next month to mark the start of the sixth regional Special Olympics.
The flame, travelling from Athens, will arrive in time for the opening ceremony of the Middle East and North Africa games, being held between Nov 15 and 21.
Mohammed al Hamli, the chairman of the UAE Special Olympics committee, said he was delighted to have the flame present at the opening ceremony, which will take place in Abu Dhabi.

H.H. Gen. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has issued a new resolution regulating the of financial support and rewards for sports sector in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Under the resolution, financial allocations will be set aside for sports clubs competing in the professional football league. According to the resolution, clubs winning local or international championships will be awarded financial rewards.

Sports fans are in for a real treat with Dubai Sports Channel and Abu Dhabi Sports Channel set to telecast the Beijing Olympic Games from the opening ceremony on Friday to the closing ceremony on August 24.
