Canberra - The Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Charity Foundation has held a mega Iftar banquet for 800 persons at the Canberra Islamic Centre as part of a month-long Iftar programme worldwide. The UAE Embassy in Australia took charge of all arrangements of the said banquet.

 RCA allocates additional Dh13.3 million for Ramadan projects abroad

The Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has allocated additional Dh13.3 million to cover the Ramadan projects abroad, bringing the amounts allocated to those projects to over Dh13. 389 million from Dh8 million in the first third of Holy Ramadan Month.  1.6 million beneficiaries of Khalifa Foundation's Iftar banquets

800,000 Ramadan Iftar meals have been offered so far by the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Charitable Foundation. The total number of beneficiaries of the major charity's benevolent project this year is set to hit 1.6 million during Ramadan, an increase of 400,000 over last year. Iftar, one of the observances of Ramadan, refers to the evening meal when Muslims break their fast upon the sunset.

The Department of Animal Health and Plant at Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA), has stepped up inspection campaigns on abattoirs, chicken slaughter places, diaries and poultries.

The UAE's Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has stepped up its efforts to improve the humanitarian conditions in the occupied Palestinian Territories (oPT). RCA has so far distributed Dh6.88 million in Iftar meals since the start of Ramadan.

Organisers of a Ramadan fair in Sharjah say they would like the holy month to be viewed as time for prayer and reflection. And also shopping. "During Ramadan, most people buy like people in Europe before Christmas,” said Saleem Shaikh, the fair's senior project manager.

 Ramadan food costs drop by 30%

Food prices during Ramadan have fallen by between 20 and 30 per cent compared with the holy month last year, the Ministry of Economy said. More ministry checks, deals with suppliers and retailers and a drop in global commodity prices had led to the decrease in food prices, Dr Hashim al Nuaimi, the director of the ministry's consumer protection department, said.

The Community Police Unit of Abu Dhabi Police's Khalidiya station has started distributing Iftar meals to drivers in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region.

A number of Islamic scholars enlivened the First Ramadan seminar at the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi on Saturday night.  Khalifa Foundation distribute Ramadan food ration in Bahrain

The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation sent last Thursday a seven truck convoy loaded with more than 100 tonnes of food assistance to Bahrain as part of its annual Ramadan food ration programme. Thirty-five thousand Iftar meals will be distributed to motorists and passerbys on all highways and roads of Abu Dhabi, Al-Ain and the Western Region (Gharbia) during Ramadan which starts tomorrow Saturday, a senior official said. Iftar - Breaking of Fast, refers to the evening meal for breaking the daily fast during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
