The Ministry of Economy has announced plans to publish proposed amendments to the industrial property law no. 31 for 1996 on its website, inviting comments and suggestions from the stakeholders, experts and specialists. UAE traders resume steel imports as stocks decline Posted on 21/05/2009
Steel traders in the UAE said they have resumed imports as stockpiles have almost come to an end. New import orders after a gap of almost six to seven months are being made at a much lower rate compared to the last year's orders.
However, there are mixed reports about the way the prices are moving with traders saying there is an upward movement of about US$40 (Dh147) to US$50 compared to prices last week; whereas analysts have predicted stable prices.

Industrial units in Fujairah up by 2.4% to touch 173 Posted on 18/05/2009
The number of industrial establishments in Fujairah last year rose by 2.4 per cent to 173 from 166 in 2007, according to the emirate's 2008 statistical report.
The total capital of the establishments rose to Dh7.338 billion compared with Dh6.6bn in 2007, an increase of 10.74 per cent. The number of labourers working in the establishments rose to 17,331, compared with 16,248 in 2007, an increase of 6.6 per cent.

Emirates Steel Industries (ESI) announced that it has commenced the commissioning of its new steelmaking plant in Mussafah.
Construction of the country's first integrated steelmaking operation continues to advance with the commissioning of a world-scale plant that will produce steel billets, the raw material for ESI's new state-of-the-art rolling mills.
This latest plant includes an electric arc furnace and a caster to mould the billets from the furnace's molten steel.

The Ruwais Fertiliser Company (FERTIL) will push on with a multibillion dirham expansion project in the emirate in spite of a sharp fall in fertiliser prices worldwide, the company's general manager said yesterday.

Abu Dhabi Polymers Company Limited (Borouge), said on Sunday it had signed a US$1.39 billion (Dh5.11 billion) deal with Técnicas Reunidas of Spain for work on an expansion project that will triple Borouge's polyolefins output.

First integrated steel plant for UAE Posted on 03/02/2009
Emirates Steel Industries (ESI) will start operation of a new steel billet plant in Musaffah this month, paving the way for the company to launch the country's first integrated steelmaking operation in the spring and control a third of the local ¬market.
