Important new fossils found in Abu Dhabi Posted on 24/01/2010
The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) announced the discovery of new fossils in the Al Gharbia (Western Region), following recent archaeological expeditions in the area.
The fossils included two complete large skulls belonging to crocodiles that had inhabited the river area some eight million years ago.
The findings came about due to technical cooperation between the Department of Historic Environment at ADACH and the Peabody Museum of Natural History at Yale University

Move to protect historic landmarks on Delma Island Posted on 21/07/2009
Al Gharbiya - An archaeological map for historic sites on Delma Island is being drawn by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) with the aim of protecting the landmarks and preventing any construction activities there.
Archaeological teams from ADACH have surveyed the island to locate the important archaeological sites in order to devise plans for restoration as well as draft strategic cultural policies.

The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) has showcased at an international conference in China the latest discoveries from Al Gharbia.
A symposium and workshop entitled "Neogene Terrestrial Mammalian Biostratigraphy and Chronology in Asia" were held in Beijing from 8-14 June, 2009. Fossil experts from all over the world attended this important scientific meeting. This was a special conference dedicated to the latest research on mammalian fossil remains found throughout Asia.

British scientists explore Sharjah mountains Posted on 15/06/2009
An archaeological team from the Royal Holloway University of London has arrived in Sharjah to carry out research to identify the archaeological layers of Al Faya Mountain in Sharjah using gamma rays. The studies on the mountain started last season, when an archaeological layer dating back over 100,000 years was found.
This is the same period as early Homo sapiens - "wise man" which has the same anatomic features of modern people - left East Africa for the northern shores of the Indian Ocean

New archaeological discoveries at Al Shuwaib Posted on 09/06/2009
The Abu Dhabi Authority of Culture and Heritage (ADACH) today announced new discoveries from the Neolithic Age and Late Islamic period at Al-Shuwaib archaeological site in Abu Dhabi.
The discoveries include a pair of silver earrings, two bronze coins, a small ring, stone tools used as hummers, grain grinders and knife sharpeners, as well as pieces of stone stoves, pieces of pottery and fossils of ostrich, ADACH said in a press release.

Major archaeological discoveries made in Umm Al Qaiwain Posted on 18/05/2009
A team of national archaeologists announced today major discoveries, including potsherds dating back to the Umm Al Nar Civilization, around 3000 BC, at Ed-Dur site in Umm Al Qaiwain.
The team, formed by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development in cooperation with local archaeology departments, was led by Eisa Yousuf, an Emirati archaeologist working with the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information.

A major new survey of the important archaeological site of Ed-Dur, in Umm al-Qaiwain, commenced yesterday. It is being undertaken in partnership between the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development and the Umm al-Qaiwain Department of Archaeology and Heritage.

85,000 years old villages found Posted on 22/04/2009
New archaeological discoveries in Sharjah's Jebel Fayah showed that human settlements existed in the area over 85,000 years ago. Excavation work was carried out as part of a joint programme between the Directorate of Antiquities at the Culture and Information Department in Sharjah and the Institute of Prehistoric Studies and Research at the German University of Tubengin.
