Top UAE junior snooker player Khalid Ali Kamali was in a buoyant mood ahead of flying out to Iran for the 2009 IBSF World U-21 Championship which starts today.
Kamali will fly the UAE flag at the 12-day tournament. The tournament is Kamali's third international outing as an individual and the 17 year old hopes to return having bettered his international performance. Kamali has never got past the group stages of a tournament before.

The UAE have done it again in the snooker tournament that has become their own over the last twelve years. Played to a gripping finish in Al Karama's Dubai Snooker Club, the 12th annual GCC championships were played to an end in the match that featured the UAE with challengers Bahrain biting at their heels.

Abu Dhabi's Saif Al Ketbi continued with his fine run as the first four places were decided for the quarterfinals of the 22nd Sharp Cosmos UAE Open Snooker Championship. Al Ketbi beat Pakistan's Salah Khan, travelling companion of Mohammad Shehab, by the narrow margin of 4-2. Major General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai Police Chief, yesterday inaugurated the UAE leg of the World billiards championships at the Dubai Police Officers Club.
