Boarding pass reader to aid E-gate users

New boarding pass scanners have been introduced for E-gate users at the Dubai and Abu Dhabi international airports. The first phase of the boarding pass reading system is being implemented in the two emirates but it will later be extended to all airports across the UAE to enhance security. Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) welcomed the arrival of Ariana Afghan Airlines, the national carrier of Afghanistan, to Al Ain International Airport with the weekly return service, from Kabul to Al Ain. Dubai Airports jumped two steps higher to become the fifth largest cargo handler following a 5.6 per cent growth in air freight in 2009. Abu Dhabi's new air traffic control centre tower (ATC) is scheduled to begin operations by the middle of this year, a source close to the developments at the Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) told Gulf News on Thursday. Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) yesterday released its January 2010 traffic report for Abu Dhabi International Airport, which shows the total number of passengers travelling through the airport grew by 11.2% over the same month last year; correspondingly, aircraft movements increased by 13.3% and cargo saw a significant rebound, up 25.6% over the same period. Following on from its International Air Transport Association (IATA) Gold Award, Abu Dhabi In-flight Catering Company (ADIFC), along with its management partners LSG Sky Chefs, has announced its 2009 on-time performance results, with 44,783 flights catered and zero associated delays recorded. Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) released its full year traffic figures for Abu Dhabi International Airport today, with passenger numbers showing a solid 7.3% growth rate throughout 2009 reaching 9.7m for the year. The Supervision Committee for the Expansion of the Abu Dhabi International Airport has invited expression of interest (EOI) from general contractors in the prequalification for the Midfield Terminal Building construction by February 1. The Dubai International Airport was used by more than 40 million passengers in 2009, a 9.2 percent increase in numbers as compared to 2008, according to Dubai Airports.
