 Boarding pass reader to aid E-gate users

New boarding pass scanners have been introduced for E-gate users at the Dubai and Abu Dhabi international airports. The first phase of the boarding pass reading system is being implemented in the two emirates but it will later be extended to all airports across the UAE to enhance security.

The work on the world's largest airport – Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International – seems to be in full swing, preparing for the grand opening of the airport on June 27 this year, after facing a year's delay.

 ADAC welcomes Afghan national carrier - Ariana - to Al Ain International

Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) welcomed the arrival of Ariana Afghan Airlines, the national carrier of Afghanistan, to Al Ain International Airport with the weekly return service, from Kabul to Al Ain. Ariana will now operate on Fridays offering both business and economy class products, said a press release from ADAC.

 Dubai Airports is fifth largest global cargo handler

Dubai Airports jumped two steps higher to become the fifth largest cargo handler following a 5.6 per cent growth in air freight in 2009.

 Abu Dhabi's new airport tower to open this year

Abu Dhabi's new air traffic control centre tower (ATC) is scheduled to begin operations by the middle of this year, a source close to the developments at the Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) told Gulf News on Thursday.
"The air traffic control tower is a part of the US$6.8 billion (Dh25 billion) redevelopment plan for Abu Dhabi International Airport," he said.

Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) yesterday released its January 2010 traffic report for Abu Dhabi International Airport, which shows the total number of passengers travelling through the airport grew by 11.2% over the same month last year; correspondingly, aircraft movements increased by 13.3% and cargo saw a significant rebound, up 25.6% over the same period.

 Dubai International traffic increases signal industry rebound

Dubai International started the New Year on a high note with more than 3.86 million passengers using the facility in January 2010.
This is the eighth consecutive month of double-digit passenger traffic growth and the highest single month passenger total ever recorded at Dubai International surpassing the previous record of 3.81 million passengers in December 2009.

Following on from its International Air Transport Association (IATA) Gold Award, Abu Dhabi In-flight Catering Company (ADIFC), along with its management partners LSG Sky Chefs, has announced its 2009 on-time performance results, with 44,783 flights catered and zero associated delays recorded.

Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) has signed a landmark 10-year leasing deal with Al Jaber Aviation (AJA), which will see the new leading provider of VIP aviation based at Al Bateen Executive Airport, in the heart of the UAE capital.
The deal makes Al Jaber Aviation the largest tenant to sign up at Al Bateen - the region's only dedicated private aviation airport - since ADAC took over the management of the airport in 2009.

Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) released its full year traffic figures for Abu Dhabi International Airport today, with passenger numbers showing a solid 7.3% growth rate throughout 2009 reaching 9.7m for the year. The Supervision Committee for the Expansion of the Abu Dhabi International Airport has invited expression of interest (EOI) from general contractors in the prequalification for the Midfield Terminal Building construction by February 1.

The Dubai International Airport was used by more than 40 million passengers in 2009, a 9.2 percent increase in numbers as compared to 2008, according to Dubai Airports. Abu Dhabi International Airport Duty Free on Wednesday announced a year-on-year revenue return of 12.7 per cent for 2009, against a 7.5 per cent growth in passenger numbers.

 Dubai International Airport continues double-digit growth in November

Dubai International Airport, or DIA, continued double-digit growth for the sixth consecutive month as it recorded 12.6 per cent passenger traffic growth in November.
The airport, home to the Middle East biggest airline Emirates, handled a total of 3.52 million passengers in November 2009 compared to 3.13 million during the same month last year, raising the year to-date passenger throughput to 37.08 million – up 8.5 per cent over the first 11 months of 2008.
