Guggenheim museum buys UAE artist's work

A work by artist-photographer Tarek Al Ghoussein, Associate Professor of Design at the American University of Sharjah, has been bought by New York's Guggenheim museum for its permanent collection. The piece, Untitled 5, is part of the D Series of 2008. Al Ghoussein studied art in New York in the early 1980s and his work has since been exhibited around the world. Zayed University in Dubai has recently revealed the creativity of its students through organising an art event named ‘Shifting Sands of Creativity'. The ceremony was inaugurated by Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Minister of Culture. Dubai a key platform for Middle East art

The city is perceived as a key platform for the art market in the Middle East, according to a recent survey. A total of 75 per cent of galleries surveyed agreed with the statement, and consider the Middle Eastern market as playing a significant role for the contemporary art industry. Mussaffah industrial zone to get 'Art Hub'

A creative arts centre in the Mussaffah industrial zone is expected to ease the capital's shortage of cheap studio space for emerging artists.
