People with special needs will be entitled to half-price travel on TransAD taxi fleet Posted on 08/07/2010
Abu Dhabi's taxi regulator, TransAD, will offer up to 50 per cent discount on fares to disabled people and recipients of social assistance in Emirate of Abu Dhabi when travelling on its taxi fleet.
An agreement in this respect, which was signed today by the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Centre for Regulation of Transport by Hire Cars, will benefit about 10,000 persons under the umbrella of the social assistance programme in Abu Dhabi.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, said that being handicapped cannot hamper creativity whenever there is potential for work and production.

Khalifa ratifies Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Posted on 26/12/2009
President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued Federal Law No. 116/ 2009 ratifying the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The law, to be published in the official gazette, instructs the Social Affairs Minister to carry it out.
Sheikh Khalifa also issued Federal Law No. 14/2009 amending Law No. 29/ 2006 on people with special needs.
The phrases "the disabled" and "disabled individuals", wherever they occur, shall be removed from the text of Law No.

Special needs expats to benefit from Health Insurance Scheme Posted on 11/07/2009
Expatriates with special needs and those coming under certain categories are also eligible for the new health insurance cards, according to a media release.
Some of these cards were issued on Monday by the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HAAD).
