"2071 Zone is in line with the UAE Centennial Vision 2071 which aims to provide future generations in the UAE with a happier life in a better environment, and with greater opportunities, stronger communications and more influence in the world. All the large and medium foundations and innovative minds are welcome to be the key partners and drivers in this massive project, which the entire world would benefit from and would draw a brighter future for the region. RIYADH: H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has praised the interest shown by the Arab leaders in combating extremism, welcoming the efforts being exerted by European countries.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah made the remarks while participating in a forum entitled "Building New Digital Alliances Against Extremism." It was organised by The Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Philanthropic Foundation "MiSK".

The event included six sessions, which focussed on the process of diagnosing reality of extremist ideology on social networking sites, and exploitation young people by terrorists for recruitment purposes.

During the session attended by Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir, Sheikh Abdullah, said, "Terrorism has no religion or nationality, as evidenced by the fact that some extremists emerged from European countries." He explained that 60 percent of those who have so far joined the Daesh terrorist organisation came from Europe, after being converted into Islam, but with a weak orientation."

He stressed that despite the great efforts of governments, "there is still more room to combat extremism amid the escalation of terrorism after the stage of Osama bin Laden, despite the billions spent on the war against terrorism in the post-9/11."

The Saudi foreign minister stressed the need for counterterrorism strategy for three main elements: confronting terrorists on the ground, draining the sources of financing terrorism and countering extremist ideology, which is the most difficult stage of confrontation.

Al-Jubeir noted that the companies responsible for social networking accounts are beginning to sense and realise the danger of those extremist groups that exploit their websites to implement terrorist agenda. As a result, they have started to cooperate more with governments in providing information on the identity of instigating persons, he added.

The participants in the forum praised the launch of the Global Centre for Combating Extremist Ideology and confirmed the support for the project and its message.

RIYADH: he Arab-Islamic-American Summit opened on Sunday at King Abdulaziz International Convention Centre in Riyadh, with the participation of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, US President Donald Trump, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and a number of leaders and representative of Arab and Muslim states.

In his speech, King Salman bin Abdulaziz welcomed the US President and the leaders of the Arab and Muslim countries.

"I welcome you in your second country, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. May the leaders of the Arab and Muslim worlds allow me to welcome President Donald Trump of the United States of America to an unprecedented historic summit that is being held at a very critical time," he said.

Speaking about the meeting with President Trump, he said, "The U.S. enjoy strong bonds of friendship and relationship with many of our countries, and this reflects President Trump's keenness to enhance co-operation and co-ordination with our countries in various fields. The meeting significantly shows that our 55 Arab and Islamic countries attending the summit yesterday, with a population exceeding 1.5 billion, are important partners in fighting the forces of extremism and terrorism to achieve world peace, security and stability."

King Salman noted that President Trump has demonstrated many hopes and aspirations for co-operation with the Arab and Muslim world.

"As we extend our appreciation of His Excellency for his response to attend and participate in this summit, we reaffirm our happiness and gratitude for President Trump's choice of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This summit is his first external participation and trip since assuming office. This does reflect the care given by the US President and his country to this summit.

"At the same time, we reaffirm that we share the same noble feelings, in terms of constructive co-operation, to renounce extremism and work on countering terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, liquidating its sources, ceasing all means of financing, eliminating terrorism, and firmly addressing this serious scourge on humanity as a whole," he added.

Commenting on the goal of the summit, he said, "We are meeting today at this summit to express the seriousness in taking rapid steps to promote a genuine partnership with the friendly United States of America in a way that serves our common interests and contributes to achieving security, peace, and development for all mankind, which is confirmed by our Islamic religion."

Regarding terrorism, the King of Saudi Arabia, said, "We have to stand united to fight the forces of evil and extremism whatever their source, in compliance with the orders of our true Islamic religion. Islam was and will remain the religion of mercy, tolerance and coexistence which were confirmed by clear examples."

During its bright eras, Islam provided the best examples in coexistence and harmony among interreligious and intercultural, he added He decried some who consider themselves as Muslims "but seek to present a distorted image of our religion by linking it with violence."

The King of Saudi Arabia underlined that one of the most important purposes of Islamic law is self-preservation and there is no honour in committing crimes. "Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance. Islam urges reconstruction of the land and prohibition of destruction and corruption. Islam considers killing an innocent as killing all people."

He cautioned that abhorrent acts are only committed as a result of attempts to exploit Islam as a cover for political purposes that fuel hatred, extremism, terrorism and religious and sectarian conflicts. He added that the Iranian regime and its affiliated groups and organisations such as Hezbollah and the Houthis, as well as Daesh and al-Qaeda and others are clear examples.

King Salman said that the Iranian regime spearheads the global terrorism since Khomeini revolution until today. "Since 300 years ago, we, in this country, did not witness terrorism or extremism until Khomeini revolution emerged in 1979."

He added that Iran has rejected initiatives of good neighborhoud provided by our countries based on good faith. Iran replaced these initiatives with expansionist ambitions, criminal practices, interferences in the internal affairs of other countries, flagrant violations of the international law, and violations of the principles of good-neighbourliness, coexistence and mutual respect, The Custodian of The Two Holy Mosques said.

The King of Saudi Arabia noted that the Iranian regime erroneously thought that "our silence a sign of weakness and our wisdom a retreat. Later on, we had enough of its hostile practices and interventions, as we have seen in Yemen and other countries in the region."

"We say this, as we confirm, at the same time, our appreciation of and respect to the Iranian people, who will not be blamed for the crimes of their regime," he said.

King Salman said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has long suffered and was a target of terrorism because it is the focus of Islam and Qibla of Muslims. The terrorists had sought to achieve fake legitimacy through targeting Muslims Qibla and centre of their gravity, he added.

"We confirm our determination to wipe out Daesh organisation and other terrorist organisations, regardless of their religion, sect or thought. This is why we have formed the Islamic Military Alliance to Fight Terrorism, considered a pioneering step to besiege terrorism," he added.

To tackle the terrorism, King Salman announced the launch of the International Centre for Combating Extremism, in collaboration with peace-loving countries and international organisations, to spread the principles of moderation, confronting the attempts to lure the juniors, immunising families and societies against deviant thought and waging a fierce war against the weak logic and controversy of the terrorists.

Then, President Donald Trump of the United States of America delivered a speech in which he thanked the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and the Saudi government and people for the warm welcome and generous hospitality accorded to him and the accompanying delegation since their arrival, expressing his pride of visiting the Kingdom.

"I want to thank King Salman bin Abdulaziz for his extraordinary words, and the magnificent Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for hosting today's summit. I am honoured to be received by such gracious hosts. I have always heard about the splendour of your country and the kindness of your citizens, but words do not do justice to the grandeur of this remarkable state and the incredible hospitality you have shown us from the moment we arrived," Trump said.

The US President recalled the historic meeting between the late King Abdulaziz bin Abdurrahman and the late U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt. Since then the enduring partnership has begun between the two countries.

He extended deep and heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of the distinguished heads of the Arab and Islamic states participating in this summit.

"In my inaugural address to the American People, I pledged to strengthen America's oldest friendships, and to build new partnerships in pursuit of peace. I also promised that America will not seek to impose way of life on others, but to outstretch our hands in the spirit of cooperation and trust. Our vision is one of peace, security, and prosperity-in this region, and in the world. Our goal is a coalition of nations who share the aim of stamping out extremism and providing our children a hopeful future in accordance with this historic and unprecedented gathering," he added.

"Yesterday, we signed historic agreements with the Kingdom to invest about US$400 billion in our two countries and create many thousands of jobs in America and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia," he said.

President Trump stressed that this landmark agreement includes announcement of a $110 billion Saudi-funded defence purchases which will enhance the Saudi military to take a greater role in security operations. "We have also started discussions with many of the countries present today on strengthening partnerships, and forming new ones, to advance security and stability across the Middle East and beyond," he said.

"We will make history again with the opening of a new global centre for combating extremist ideology, in this central part of the Islamic world.

This groundbreaking new centre represents a clear declaration that Muslim-majority countries must take the lead in combating radicalisation, and I want to express our gratitude to King Salman for this strong demonstration of leadership," the U.S. President said.

"America is a sovereign nation and our first priority is always the safety and security of our citizens. We are here to offer partnership based on shared interests and values. But above all, we must be united in pursuing one goal that transcends every other considerations. That goal is to deal extremists a historic defeat and vanquish the forces of terrorism," President Trump said.

The US President referred to the deadliest toll inflicted by the terrorists on the innocent people of Arab, Muslim and Middle Eastern nations. President Trump stressed that some estimates hold that more than 90% of the victims of terrorism are Muslims.

The US President stressed necessity of eradicating terrorism, noting that the Middle East is rich with natural beauty, vibrant cultures, and massive amounts of historic treasures to be protected.

Anti-Dumping Law protects nation's industry sector, says Minister of Economy

posted on 22/05/2017

Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Economy, has said that the issuance of Federal Law No. 01 of 2017 on anti-dumping actions and countervailing and preventive measures is another pioneering step towards the development of the legislative and regulatory framework of the UAE's economic environment that enhances the nation's economic competitiveness, particularly in the industrial and foreign trade sectors.

He added that the issuance of the law gave the concerned authorities in the country, especially the Ministry of Economy, the legislative authority to protect the national industries and local businesses and markets by allowing the government to impose duties on products it believes are being "dumped" in the UAE's national market. The law also allows the Government to impose countervailing duties to counteract artificially low prices that are a result of subsidies, through mechanisms and foreign trade agreements compatible within the frameworks of the World Trade Organisation.

The Minister explained that the procedures stipulated in the provisions of the law would establish the foundations of fair trade competition in the local markets and prevent the products that are dumped, subsidised or increased imports harm the national industry by acquiring illegal advantage within the framework of the multilateral trading system. This then strengthens investor confidence in the industrial sector, and increases the UAE's economic competitiveness, growth and access to foreign markets, he added.

Sheikha Bodour will lead the council in pioneering transformative solutions to the region's big societal challenges.

Her appointment, the first woman to Chair the RBC, comes in recognition of her pioneering efforts in addressing key regional socio-economic challenges around competitiveness, youth employment, entrepreneurship, enhancing governance and ensuring institutional quality for inclusive growth, education reform and peace-building.

Following the announcement of her appointment, Sheikha Bodour participated in a number of discussion panels at the forum. In the session ‘Stewarding a Policy Framework for Generational Transformation', she underlined the need to extend bridges of communication between the council and the Regional Strategy Group, RSG, of which she is a member. Exploring areas where policy reform is required, she called for greater discussions on issues such as economic integration and diversification, job creation, education and training, healthcare and social development, in order to be able to agree on a regional agenda and the future role and mandate of the RSG.

Highlighting the region's major challenges and opportunities, Sheikha Bodour said, "The Middle East is on the threshold of a new phase of growth. While a world of opportunities lies ahead, it is more important than ever for us to tread carefully and to place a strong focus on building integrated, inclusive and sustainable economies that are beneficial to all parties."

In the session ‘New Concepts: Arab World from History to Fiction', Sheikha Bodour discussed questions of regional identity, diversity and a shared future from the perspective of literature, highlighting the key literary concepts needed in the Arab world to achieve a more inclusive future for the region.

"I believe in the role of books and the power of the word in changing people's lives, especially those living in countries affected by crises and wars. This is what has prompted me to establish Kalimat Foundation for Children's Empowerment, with its key mission being to ensure children's access to reading by providing refugee libraries with children's books. In these countries, there are many children who are living in especially difficult circumstances that deprive them of their right to education, thereby denying their right to imagine and dream of a better future. This is why the role of stories and novels is extremely important in providing children with the tool that enables them to realise their hopes and dreams," said Sheikha Bodour.

Stressing the need for Arab authors to write about their history and for them to have a platform that would allow them to become a powerful voice for their community, Sheikha Bodour said, "I truly believe in the book's ability to be a window for communities to achieve cultural exchange and a mirror that reflects what is happening in Arab societies."

A delegation of government officials and economic experts from Sharjah was also present at the forum, with its members meeting with leading business, government and civil society leaders from over 50 nations to advance public-private cooperation on issues deemed critical for the future of the MENA region.
