UAE's National Seismic Network detects 17 tremors Posted on 12/09/2008
The seismic network stations across the UAE detected 17 tremors in the aftershocks of the earthquake that hit the Iranian port city of Bandher Abbas Wednesday afternoon.
The Network, an affiliate of the UAE National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology, had primarily detected the earthquake, the epicentre of which was the Iranian Island of Qeshm in the Arabian Gulf. The quake that measured 6.1 on the Richter scale occurred at 3:00pm yesterday.

Tremors from earthquake in the Iranian Island of Gishm felt in the UAE Posted on 11/09/2008
The UAE National Seismic Network, an affiliate of the UAE National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology yesterday detected an earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale, the epicentre of which was the Iranian Island of Gishm in the Arabian Gulf.

HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs yesterday presided over the first meeting of the board of trustees of the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS), held at the Presidential Palace. The board approved the Centre's bylaws and organisation structure. Cairo - United Arab Emirates yesterday signed the statute of the Arab Centre for prevention of earthquake calamities and other natural disasters. Anhydrite-rich soil discovered in Abu Dhabi coastal area Posted on 18/03/2008
A new type of soil rich in Anhydrite (Calcium Sulphate - CaSO4), a mineral known for its value for construction purposes, was discovered only 70 cm deep in the coastal sabkha (salt flat) of the emirate of Abu Dhabi, announced to the Environment Agency- Abu Dhabi (EAD).

The Masafi earthquake on March 10 last year might have caused the mountains of east Ras Al Khaimah to uplift by up to four centimetres, according to geoscientists.

Two light earth tremors hit Masafi Friday evening, the first occurred at exactly 20:05 local time, while the second occurred about thirty minutes later, according to the National Meteorology and Earthquake Centre. An earthquake measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale hit Dibba Al Fujairah early on Saturday morning. The Geology Department of the UAE University (UAEU) has published a new book on the UAE's geological features. Titled "Geologic Features of the United Arab Emirates", the book has been written by Dr Benjamin R. Jordan, Assistant Professor of the Geology Department at UAEU.

The seismic risk in Dubai is lower than that of London and it is not dangerous as has been reported in some risk assessment reports, said an expert. Seismic seminar set to move the earth for Dubai’s architects Posted on 09/04/2007
