Over 700 competitors are expected to participate in the second edition of Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Cup which will take place from May 31 to June 2 at Al Jazira indoor stadium in Abu Dhabi, the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF) announced on Monday.
Participants including both female and male fighters representing more than 19 countries will take part in the event.
The breakdown will be 200 professional male and female competitors, 500 young school students, in addition to participation of six young special needs (hearing impaired) students aged 10 and 11.
It will be the first time that a team will represent Abu Dhabi Centre for Care and Rehabilitation of People with Special Needs in the Jiu Jitsu tournaments.
This comes as part of the UAEJJF's efforts to provide all capabilities for those wishing to take part in the events from all categories.
The announcement was made at a press conference held by UAEJJF at Al Jazira Club premises which was attended by Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, UAEJJF vice Chairman, Mohammed bin Dalmouk Al Dhaheri, UAEJJF Board Member and Tournament Manager and Fahed Ali Al Shamsi, UAEJJF Board Member.
No Gi competitions for male competitors will be held on the opening day of the tournament. – The Gulf Today

Stockholm: The UAE Ice Hockey Association (UAE IHA) has been granted full membership of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), thus becoming the first Arab country to have the privilege of joining high ranked members and decision-makers in the international ice hockey community.
This membership represents a great administrative achievement for the rising UAE Hockey Association. The UAE IHA succeeded in obtaining the membership after its application was submitted by the participating Emirati delegation at the IIHF General Assembly in Stockholm, Sweden. The document was internationally praised for its precision in applying international standards and adhering to regulations. An IIHF delegation also visited The UAE IHA headquarters in Zayed Sport City, Abu Dhabi, where the delegation reviewed the available facilities and was introduced to the mechanisms of supporting local championships.
Dr. Ahmad Mubarak Al Mazrouei, President of UAE IHA, dedicated this achievement to the leadership of UAE that supports excellence in the sports sector and provides all necessities that help the UAE to shine in the world of sports. He also expressed his pride in this success as a first for any Arab country to be granted full membership of the body.
Dr. Al Mazrouei praised the welcome the UAE received internationally, noting that these positive reactions are a reflection of the UAE's positive reputation.
Dr. Al Mazrouei expressed his gratitude to H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, for his direct attention given to the development of the sports sector.

Thursday June 6th will be a paid official holiday for all workers of the private sector companies and enterprises nationwide to observe the anniversary of Isra Wal Miraj, according to a circular issued by Saqr Ghobash, Minister of Labour.
The resolution comes in pursuant to the provisions of article 74 of the Federal Law No. 8 of 1980, concerning the regulation of labour relations and its amendments.
The Minister of Labour congratulated President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and Members of Supreme Council, Their Highnesses Rulers of the Emirates on this occasion.
Ghobash also greeted the Government, people of the UAE and residents on the occasion, wishing more progress and prosperity to the Arab and Muslim nations. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
