German official lauds UAE for issuing anti-terror law Posted on 31/07/2004
A former State Minister in the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has described as "a wise decision" the anti-terror law issued recently by President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan, saying that the UAE is the most stable country in the region. Helmut Schefer, who is a member of the Association of Arab-German Association for Industry and Trade, said the decision's aim, naturally, is in the interest of the UAE citizens.

The President, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, has sent a cable of condolences to President Roh Moo-hyun of South Korea on the death of South Korean hostage Kim Sun-il, who was beheaded by a militant group in Iraq on Tuesday.

Terrorism has no religion or country and has no links with the Arab-Muslim world, a UAE minister affirmed in Berlin yesterday. 'The Arab-Muslim World, and the UAE in particular, condemn the terrorist acts which are incompatible with our tolerant Islamic faith,' said Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of Economy and Commerce, in an interview with a German TV Channel.

The UAE is poised to introduce a new law to combat the financing of terrorism in response to concerns raised by the International Monetary Fund. The Governor of the UAE Central Bank, Sultan bin Nasser Al Suweidi, said on Saturday his country abides by all UN sanctions against terrorist financing. The US embassy in Abu Dhabi and its consulate in Dubai were last Wednesday following a dubious terror tip-off. The embassy swung into action and immediately alerted the police, who arrested a man for questioning.
