The Presidential Court has announced that all the Eid Al Adha receptions and celebrations will be cancelled to mourn to the death of Sheikh Rashid bin Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who passed away this morning in a tragic accident. Sheikh Mohammed bin Saeed bin Majid Al Qasimi died on 24 January when his light aircraft crashed while landing at Umm Al Quwain Aero Club. 150-bed obstetric hospital planned in Fujairah

The Fujairah Medical District has recently completed the blueprint of the new Dh150 million project of the Fujairah Obstetric and Gynaecology Hospital. Traffic accidents up in Abu Dhabi

Road traffic accidents in Abu Dhabi increased sharply from 2,187 in 1999 to 2,514 last year, according to traffic department statistics of the year 2000. Deaths resulting from these accidents also increased from 142 in 1999 to 160 last year. 'The rate of traffic casualties including drivers, passengers, pedestrians and other unidentified victims also increased from 3,411 in 1999 to 3,783 last year,' said the statistics, which was reported by the 'Gulf Today'. Hospital records 28 births a day

Last year 10,375 babies were born in the Corniche Maternity and Obstetrics Hospital in Abu Dhabi, the highest since the hospital was opened in the 70s. Sources at the hospital said a child was born every 50 minutes or 28 births a day. Ras Al Khaimah has the highest birth rate in the UAE, with around 12 babies being born every day, a senior medical official said. Dr Yasser Isa Al Nuaimi, who heads the medical district, said statistics show that 3,000 to 4,000 babies are being born every year. Most of them take place in hospitals, but a large number go unrecorded because they occur in hospitals outside the emirate.
