Blaze reduces Ras Al Khor offices to rubble

More than 50 offices were destroyed in a fire early yesterday morning in Ras Al Khor. The Dubai police operation room heard about the fire at 3.26am, and the civil defence team arrived at the scene within seven minutes. Speaking to Gulf News, Colonel Rashid Al Matroushi, director of Dubai Civil Defence, said it was a record response time. Aerosol cans were thrown tens of metres into the air after a warehouse storing thousands of them went up in flames. Firefighters struggled for more than four hours to put out two factory fires in Ajman's old industrial area yesterday afternoon, but no one was injured. Merchandise worth millions of dirhams was destroyed by a massive fire in Sharjah Industrial Area No 1 yesterday. No injuries were reported. Seventeen stores were badly damaged during the blaze, which started at about 7am, police said. Statistics show that a total of 2,075 fire accidents occurred throughout UAE in 2004, leaving 67 persons dead and 165 sustaining different degrees of injuries, according a Civil Defence official. A fire badly damaged a wooden cargo boat moored at the wharf on the Dubai Creek yesterday. No injuries were reported. A key warehouse for materials used in oilfield services went up in smoke last Thursday but there were no injuries.
