The Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department has announced it was relaxing visit visa rules, but only for the coming tourism season. Local residents will be able to apply visas for their family members and friends back home. Dubai's gold jewellery retail sales fell by 9.42 per cent last year to Dh250 million compared to Dh276 million worth of jewellery sold in 2000, according to the Gold and Jewellery Group. The Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department (DNRD) has spent Dh5 million in upgrading its infrastructure to speed up the visa processing system ahead of the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF). The Dubai Shopping Festival, DSF 2001 led to a 23 per cent increase in volume of goods transported by land during February compared to last year, says a report from the Dubai Customs' land transport customs centre.
