Khalifa meets Pope Shenouda

President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan received yesterday at Al Bateen Palace Pope Shenouda III of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark. Pope Shenouda is currently visiting the UAE to participate in the opening of the Egyptian Coptic Orthodox church in Abu Dhabi.
Welcoming Pope Shenouda, Sheikh Khalifa affirmed the UAE's firm determination to promote the message of Islam which calls peace, love and fraternity among nations of the world.
On his turn, Pope Shenouda paid tribute to the leadership, government and people of the UAE for the care awarded to the Coptic community. He praised the high spirit of intimacy and tolerance prevailed in the UAE.
This spirit, he said, has provided the Christian communities in general and the Coptic in particular to perform their rituals freely.
He also highlighted the role the UAE plays under the leadership of Sheikh Khalifa in promoting peaceful dialogue among the East and West cultures and the Christianity and Islam. ''We still holding the view that Christians in the Arab World are part and parcel of the Arab nation and we are proud of that,'' he stressed.
The meeting was attended by General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and a number of Sheikhs, ministers and top officials. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
