Khalifa holds talks with Afwerki

President H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan held talks in Abu Dhabi yesterday with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki. Presidents Khalifa and Afwerki conferred on bilateral relations and how to enhance them, particularly in the areas of trade and investments. The two leaders also exchanged views on a number of international and regional issues, in addition to the current situation in the Horn of Africa.
During the meeting, the visiting Eritrean President briefed Sheikh Khalifa on the latest development in the Horn of Africa and how countries of that region are working to evolve an acceptable formula to stabilise the region.
For his part, Sheikh Khalifa concurred that stability was the key to improving the economic lot of the people of the region. At the end of the meeting, President Afwerki expressed his happiness to visit the UAE and meet Sheikh Khalifa.
He thanked the UAE for providing developmental and humanitarian aid to a number of African countries, saying that such assistance was making a difference in as far eradication of poverty was concerned. He also lauded the astounding progress made by the UAE in various spheres of socio-economic development. Afwerki expressed hope that his visit would open new avenues of economic cooperation in terms of joint ventures between UAE and Eritrean businessmen. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
