His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, yesterday called on UAE nationals to register themselves in the Population Register and obtain their National ID cards. He said that such registration was a national responsibility. Sheikh Mohammed received his card yesterday.

The first one was presented to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, while card number two was presented to the Vice-President. The Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) is implementing the ID card and population register project.

As he registered for the project, which has been dubbed as one of the largest hi-tech projects in the Middle East, Sheikh Mohammed said: "This project is one of the most important national projects. It constitutes not only one of the strategies of the state, but also a qualitative leap. It will certainly reinforce the development process of the country in various spheres.” Dr Saeed Al Dhaheri, Director General of EIDA, gave Sheikh Mohammed his card. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
